Course Abstract:

Executives & Portfolio Managers are those individuals within an enterprise who are using the Project Server system to monitor and analyze management metrics and reports.  This course trains Executives & Portfolios Managers how to use Project Server and Project Web Access to work with and manage project views, reports, Project Analyzer, and resource and schedule visibility tools for the organization’s entire portfolio of projects.

This course is designed for Executives and Project Portfolio managers.

The first lesson is a quick overview of the Project management Process as well as an exploration of the capabilities of Microsoft Project Professional.

Lesson 2:  Understanding the Enterprise Project Model
In this lesson we will explore the capabilities of Project Web Access (PWA) and the definitions of:
Groups
Categories
Permissions

Lesson 3: Managing Microsoft Project Enterprise Configuration
In this lesson we will explore the process of how to guide the process of configuring Project Server for maximum enterprise effectiveness.  The class will explore
Leading the development of the resource Breakdown Structure (RBS)
Leading the development of the Skill Breakdown Structure
Guiding the development of the Enterprise Global Template
Managing the establishment of an enterprise Project context
Enterprise Project Prototyping
Enterprise Project Deployment

Lesson 4: Understanding Project roles and categories
In this lesson we will explore project categories and group roles. The categories include:
My Organization
My Resources
My Projects
My tasks
Custom enterprise categories

The groups include:
Administrators
Executives
Project managers
Resource managers
Team Members
Custom enterprise Groups

Lesson 5: The Project manager’s role
In this brief review we will explore the processes used by the Project manager to create projects, Save and Publish the projects on Project server as well as collaboration techniques with Project contributors Portfolio Managers, Executives as well as other stake-holders

Lesson 6: The Team Member’s role
In this brief review we will explore the processes used by the project contributors (team members) interact with Project web Access, communicate assignment progress update status and deal with risks, issues and documents associated with projects

Lesson 7: Modeling and Analysis in MSPE
In this lesson we will explore the tools with MSPE for the analysis and modeling of Project Portfolios. We will explore:
Defining and using dashboard views
Understanding On-line Analytical Process (OLAP)
Configuring OLAP
Analyzing projects (Pivot tables)
Modeling Projects

Lesson 8: Managing Documents, Risks and Issues with Windows SharePoint Services
In this lesson we will explore the role of SharePoint in managing project related documentation. We will explore:
SharePoint Capabilities
Managing Documents
Managing risks
Managing Issues

Prerequisites:

Familiarity with Project terminology is a benefit but not required.
