AIX System Administration II Course

Course Abstract: This course covers advanced System Administration topics. Participants are invited to bring their current ideas and questions to the classroom for discussion. Lecture, group problem solving, and online laboratories will be used. Participants will be encouraged to enhance their skills utilizing the techniques presented through classroom problem solving and controlled online workshops.
Audience: This course is designed for System Administrators who are already familiar with the AIX Operating System and with common system administration techniques, but desire more detailed and specialized information as listed below. (This course is a follow-on to AIX System Administration I course.)
Duration: 5 days
Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to configure and manage a typical AIX system in a standalone environment, including troubleshooting and problem determination of the boot sequence and basic performance issues. This course also introduces network topics as they pertain to other content, but does not go into specific details.

Understanding the Object Data Manager (ODM)
Boot Sequence and Problem Solving
Disk Management: Theory and Practice
Backing Up Volume Groups
Online File System Backups
Error Log and the Syslog Daemon
Using Diagnostic Tools
Working With the Dump Facility
Basic Performance and Workload Management
Basic and Advanced Security (standalone and networked)

Prerequisites: Familiarity with commands, directory structure, and the text editor is required. The largest value is obtained when the participant has been working as a system administrator for approximately 4 to 8 weeks, or has completed the AIX System Administration I course. Completion of certain labs is dependent upon appropriate access to the machine used for the workshops.
