In today’s lean and fast pace work life, people are required to get things completed quickly and efficiently. From motivating people to provide the needed information, to making sure that messages are understood, listening becomes a critical skill. In this class, participants examine and practice how listening is an intellectual and emotional process that integrates physical, emotional, and intellectual inputs in a search for meaning and understanding. Effective listening occurs when the listener discerns and understands the sender’s meaning. |

What Listening Can Do For You Listening facts Builds relationships Three levels of listening This introductory section begins by discussing the importance of listening. Participants examine the benefits of listening from an organizational and personal perspective. Assessing Your Listening Skills Listening Inventory Strengthening your skills This inventory assesses the listening skills and habits. Once identified, an activity is provided to enhance those skills that need improvement.
Barriers Between Listener and Speaker The listening process (ARP) Internal barriers External barriers In this section, participants examine the process of listening and identify the common blockers that hinder the listening process. The Power of Non-verbal Language Listening with ears, eyes and heart Power of body language IPT Test Participants examine the power of non-verbal language. They identify the various messages and how they can cause confusion. The IPT Test is provided to sharpen the total listening experience. Listening Skills HEAR Model Honing-in Empathic listening Ask the right questions and analyze Responding empathically Practice The HEAR model provides an easy method to enhance participant’s understanding of the necessary listening skills.
