| Course Abstract: |
This course provides the skills necessary to present information in a way that captures and maintains the audience’s attention. Participants learn how to identify a purpose, and build the presentation to meet that purpose. Discussion and practice of presentation development and delivery skills create a hands-on, interactive, skill-building course.
Since the skills of a facilitator are different from a “presenter”, this course continues by identifying the differences. Participants learn to use several facilitation tools and practice dealing with several common unavoidable problems and issues.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
> Identify benefits of a powerful presentation. > Discuss ways to manage nervousness. > Review and apply the seven actions for preparing a dynamic presentation. > Learn about and practice organizing your presentation and developing your notes. > Cover the ten techniques that add variety, interest, and emphasis in a dynamic presentation. > Review the effective use of four types of visual aids: overhead, flip chart, handouts, and PowerPoint. > Know the power of the three V’s: Visual, Verbal, and Vocal. > Present an impromptu presentation using information learned. > Learn techniques on how to deal with the “unavoidables.” > Present a presentation that is videotaped. > Receive feedback on learned presentation skills. > Learn the salient points of being an effective facilitator. |

In this introductory section, participants identify the benefits and characteristics of a dynamic presentation.

This section focuses on the six key actions in preparing a dynamic presentation. Participants learn and practice skills associated with each action.
Using the Three V’s Visual Verbal Vocal
In this section, participants examine the importance of each of the three V’s when delivering a presentation.
Visual Aids Flip charts PowerPoint Handouts
In this section, participants learn how to effectively utilize each visual medium. They then practice creating effective visuals for their own presentation.
Managing Nervousness Ten mistakes of a presenters The 10 to-do’s In this section, participants learn effective tips and techniques for conquering nervousness.
Preparing Presentations Each participant will prepare their presentation to be delivered and video taped the following day.

After each presentation, the class and instructor provide feedback to each presenter.
Differences between a Presenter and Facilitator Roles and behaviors Comparisons
Participants examine and discuss the different skill sets of a presenter and facilitator.
