Course Abstract: This ILT Series course teaches participants about the fundamentals of business etiquette. Participants learn how to build relationships, create a professional appearance, develop positive relationships with co-workers, and practice cubicle and office etiquette. In addition, the course teaches participants the appropriate behavior and etiquette when using the Internet, in daily communications, and in meetings. Participants also learn how to handle ethical dilemmas and personal issues, become a good conversationalist, and are courteous when communicating. Participants also examine the appropriate etiquette for business meals and functions, as well as how to be a courteous traveler at home or abroad. The manual is designed for quick scanning in the classroom and filled with interactive exercises that help ensure participant success. It comes with a companion CBT program.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

> Describe business etiquette, present a professional appearance, and identify appropriate business attire
> Practice cubicle and office etiquette
> Develop positive co-worker relationships and avoid rumors, gossip, and conflicts
> Use the Internet appropriately
> Identify and handle ethical dilemmas and maintain loyalty and confidentiality in the workplace
> Handle personal issues in the workplace, such as flirting, dating, office romances, and sexual harassment
> Introduce people properly an identify actions to take when being introduced
> Be an effective conversationalist and handle conversational faux pas
> Follow meeting protocol and etiquette
> Describe telephone courtesy and apply it while using telephone, voice mail, and speakerphones
> Compose professional e-mail messages by writing effective subject lines and messages, and using professional e-mail signatures
> Follow proper writing guidelines to communicate written information clearly and efficiently
> Follow proper etiquette at business functions
> Identify formal table setting, utensils, and glassware at business dinners, and demonstrate proper etiquette for business dining
> Be a courteous traveler and follow etiquette for traveling by plane, train, or car, and staying at hotels
> Prepare for international business trips by understanding cultural orientations and respecting hosts
