iSeries Programming Facilities Workshop Course

Course Abstract: This class covers the IBM programming environment and functions on the iSeries. Participants learn how to define DB2 objects with SQL and Data Description Specifications (DDS) coding techniques, understand how OS/400 objects relate to software applications, create application Display Files using CODE/400 Designer, and learn how to write basic CL programs. This course gives the programmer hands-on, working knowledge of the graphical and PC5250 IBM iSeries programming environment and how to manage that environment effectively.

 

Audience:

This course is designed for programmers new to the iSeries, and programmers, operators and administrators who need to understand the IBM programming facilities for the iSeries.

Duration: 3 days
Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
> Code DB2 physical and logical files
> Gain exposure to IBM programming facilities CODE/400, PDM and iSeries Navigator

Understand the programming environment on the iSeries
Source physical files and program members
Tools to organize your development environment
Understand how SQL objects and OS/400 DB2 objects co-exist
Understand how programming objects relate
Physical and logical files
Libraries and collections
Display files, CL programs and HLL programs

Prerequisites:

Participants should have prior programming experience in some language. Participants should know how to perform basic system operations with CL commands and describe work management objects. These prerequisites can be met through successful completion of iSeries OS/400 Technical Orientation or equivalent
