iSeries Operations Workshop I Course

Course Abstract:

This lecture and lab course will develop the basic skills necessary to manage day-to-day operations on the IBM iSeries. Learn how the operating system works so you can effectively assist your users and manage the system. This course applies to V5 iSeries servers; however, the material is also appropriate for AS/400 and AS/400e systems.

Audience:

This course is designed for operators, administrators, and IT professionals who are interested in gaining a basic understanding of OS/400, the iSeries operating system.

Duration: 4 days
Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
>Learn how to control system operations using both graphical (iSeries Navigator) and the text-based, green screen (PC5250) interfaces.
>Use CL commands and understand how to find CL commands.
>Monitor and control jobs, job queues, output queues and devices.
>Utilize OS/400 save and restore commands, and how to determine if your backup policy is appropriate for your installation.
>Apply the basics of work management
>User profiles
>Job descriptions
>Subsystems
>System Values
>Print routing
>Utilize the basics of OS/400 security and security tools.
>Cover the basics of administration; OS/400 auto-cleanup job and disk management tools.

Prerequisites:

Some basic experience with the iSeries is helpful, but not required. (Basic knowledge of PC’s, Windows, and networked systems is assumed.)
