Sybase System & Database Administration for ASE 12.5.3 Course

Course Abstract: Through a combination of lectures and hands-on labs, participants will identify the major tasks of Sybase system and database administration. Participants will practice these tasks using Adaptive Servers (12.5) in a safe and controlled environment. Emphasis is given to resource management (memory, disk, and CPU) with a goal of creating a reliable Adaptive Server environment. The course also presents fundamental monitoring and troubleshooting methods, as well as details about the server’s locking schemes and system and user-defined roles.
Audience: This course is designed for System Administrators, Database Administrators.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
> Install Adaptive Server and navigate its environment
>Manage physical data placement and storage
>Create, back up, and restore databases
>Create user accounts and manage permissions
>Manage data caching through the creation of named caches
>Enable and optimize for parallel data access
>Diagnose and implement optimal locking schemes

Prerequisites: Completion of Introduction to ASE 12.5.3 or equivalent experience is required. Extensive prior work with SQL and familiarity with Adaptive Server Enterprise is desirable.
