The ILE COBOL class is a 3-day workshop that emphasizes conversion issues and application structure design considerations. The focus of the class is ILE module design (with CL and COBOL examples), creation, maintenance strategies and activation group structure. The participant will learn the processes and a methodology to be used to build robust ILE applications, also reviewed V5 R2 ILE enhancements including ILE error handling.
The participant will learn by converting a non-ILE ie. OPM application to ILE applications. Subprograms will be compiled into ILE Modules. Modules will be combined into ILE programs and service programs in an ILE design that create Named Activation Groups. Through lecture and labs the participant will explore various ILE application design options and consequences.
Special emphasis is placed on performance programming and ease of application maintenance. The ILE environment and application design can improve application performance significantly. The participant will learn to use ILE techniques to improve application performance and activation group isolation.
