Course Abstract:

This is an intense, in depth, course covering the, design, coding and maintenance of Enterprise COBOL applications including array management, data access, subroutine construction, parameter passing, e-COBOL built in functions, XML and more.

Audience:

This course is designed for Application Programmers, Team Leaders, and Analysts that need to know and use the efficiencies of e-COBOL vs. older COBOL.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
> Discern the power of e-COBOL verses older COBOL language versions
> Recognize the New Syntax and Divisions of the e-COBOL language
> Identify the Processing Constructs of the e-COBOL language
> Understand the built in APIs for using XML with e-COBOL
> Code, Compile, and Run Structured e-COBOL programs
> Utilize e-COBOL ‘soft abends’ vs. old COBOL dumps
> Understand the Region/Process/Enclave structure
> Multi-tasking; Multi-threading with e-COBOL
> Recognize e-COBOL ‘Classes’ and ‘Objects’
> Utilize e-COBOL Built-In Functions

Course Topics: Allocating and using LOCAL and dynamic storage correctly
e-COBOL vs. older COBOL syntax, structure and efficiencies
e-COBOL internal sorts; when they are good, when they are not
e-COBOL vs. older COBOL table (array) design, coding, and accessing
e-COBOL enhancements overview; COBOL Classes, UNICODE, Java, XML, etc.
Prerequisites:

Programming experience with knowledge of the TSO/ISPF environment is required.

NOTES: This course is very intense and is offered in conjunction with an introduction to TSO/ISPF and mainframes format for non-programmers entering the IT discipline. Also, hands-on workshops include the use of DB2 UDB access if available.
