Cognos 8 BI Metrics Manager Course

Course Abstract: You will load data from supported data sources using Cognos Metric Designer, as well as using alternative data loading methods such as flat files and SQL scripts.
Audience: This is an intermediate course for Developers.  You may have up to 12 students for the session.
Duration: 2 days
Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

> Plan, create, set up, and maintain scorecard applications using Cognos Metric Studio
> Secure objects within the scorecard application, as well as the application itself

Cognos Metrics Studio (2 Days)
Create Metrics Store
Identify scorecard methodologies
Introduction to Metrics Designer
Create a Metrics Extract from a Dimensional Source
Data Mapping
Introduction to Metric Studio
Transfer Metrics from the Staging Area
Creating scorecards, metric types, qualifiers, and metrics
Develop Watch Lists
Add Reports to Metrics
Pass parameters to a report
Create a metrics extract from a Framework Manager model
Load data from a relational data source and/or flat file
Create Diagrams

Workshop (1 day) Optional
Answer client specific questions
Create real reports using client packages and data

Prerequisites: Knowledge of Performance Management (PM) concepts
Knowledge of scorecarding methodologies and applications
Knowledge of your business requirements
Experience using the Windows operating system
Experience using a Web browser
Basic knowledge of Cognos 8 BI and Cognos Connection
Availability of a conference room, projector and computers for each student(s) and trainer
The appropriate software installed on each student(s) computer prior to start of training
Connection to your database from either ODBC or native driver
