| Course Abstract: |
The Basic FOCUS Reporting Class will teach the participant how to read and describe relational-like structures, sequential files, and single and multi-path database structures. The participant will also learn how to join together multiple structures. There will be a heavy concentration on writing customized reports with FOCUS, including both adhoc and formal stored report procedures. The participant will learn how to use the FOCUS and/or the system editor. The course will cover detail and summary reporting, sorting, record selection, temporary fields, and calculations, and formatting commands. The participant will spend a significant amount of time at a terminal or PC working problem sets. |

This course is intended for both the end-user and data processing professionals who have working knowledge of the operating system and system editor where they will be working with FOCUS. |

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to: > Read and describe multiple types of files including: relational-like structures, sequential files, and single and multi-path database structures > Join multiple structures together for reporting > Create a picture of the database structure > Create detail and summary type reports > Sort and display data both horizontally and vertically > Create matrix reports > Create row and column totals, subtotals, and grand totals > Create automatic page breaks > Create temporary fields/perform calculations > Create customized heading and footings > Selectively retrieve data > Create two types of extract files > Use FOCUS’ Editor and/or the system editor |
