What are the main differences between ITIL® v2 and ITIL® v3?

ITIL® v2 is primarily focused on the ten key processes used to provide IT services in alignment with the business.  There was more emphasis on a tactical and operational perspective.  This included taking the needs of the business and delivering a service to support those needs.

ITIL® v3 is focused on the fives stages of the Service Lifecycle.  The key perspective is to be integrated with the business, not just aligned.  Taking a strategic view and having the ability to be proactive in identifying new areas where IT can help the business become more flexible, efficient and effective. This will enable to business to provide better service to the end customer and ultimately gain an advantage in the market place.
